More New Books!
I haven’t posted about book purchases for a while. Below are some of the books I’ve recently added to my library’s children’s collection. These selections caught my eye, either by fabulous reviews, popular subject matter, beautiful illustrations, or all three. I wish I had time to read and review them all on the spot, but I’ll get there …
Yippee for Libraries!
Where else can you borrow hot-off-the-press books for a few weeks absolutely free? And lots of brand new movies on DVDs and audio books on CDs, as well (did I mention free?). Many people think they’ll only find musty old books at their public library, but if your library is anything like mine, we are constantly …
Holiday Magic
For those of you who enjoyed my Massachusetts-based Thanksgiving post: here, the above winter scene was painted by F. Gleason, who was also from the Boston area. And now for another historic gem from the Bay State–the world famous tune of Jingle Bells (The One Horse Open Sleigh) was written by James Pierpont of Medford, MA in 1850. …
Rodgers Memorial Library Celebration
I had a wonderful time participating in the 5th Anniversary Celebration of the Rodgers Memorial Library’s new building. The day was filled with music, crafts, clowns, face painting, book talk and–because of the annual cupcake contest–tons of cupcakes!

Fancy Nancy Tea Party
Miss Patty is the children’s librarian at the public library where I work. On the day before Mother’s Day, she hosted a Fancy Nancy-style tea party. Here she is serving lemonade: So many pretty dresses! There’s always time to sneak in some reading: Everyone enjoyed sipping lemonade, and nibbling on pretty sandwiches and cookies. Sharing …
Beloved Old Treasures
There’s something about old books. And I don’t mean a musty odor. My books, believe it or not, don’t smell at all and they’ve been on my shelves for more years than I care to share. Already antiques at the time, I bought some of the oldest ones from a used bookstore when I was …
Library Work
It’s so much fun to work at a public library surrounded by books and those who love them. We’ve just taken down our staff art exhibit. The display included photographs, paintings, pastels, and needlework. Here is a fuzzy close-up of my contribution. Besides all the fun events, another great thing about working at the library is I get to …
