Do you ever go to your local library to hear an author talk about their writing process or share their latest book? I’ve been to quite a few over the years at various libraries and now that I have my own books out there in the world, I sometimes am a guest at those same libraries. Here are a… Read more »

Libraries–Big & Small
Libraries of all shapes and sizes have been around for centuries and it seems I’m drawn to them wherever I travel. I recently visited a large modern library in Seattle, WA. This enormous building (362,987 square-feet!) was newly designed in 2004 and has eleven floors. The Seattle Central Library is beautiful in a flashy sort of way, but definitely not… Read more »
New Library Books
Librarians are often asked how they choose books for their collections. I’d like to share some of the beautiful new children’s books I’ve recently acquired for my library. Unlike many public libraries, our fiscal year begins in January, rather than July to June, so lots of new purchases are coming in (although fortunately for our town, the flow… Read more »
Audio Book Update
I’m a big fan of audio books. I listen to them coming and going from my library job and while waiting for my daughter at the train station. Sure, you can sometimes get distracted in traffic (since paying attention to the road is your main concern, of course 🙂 ) but the beauty of audio books is… Read more »

Have you ever walked into a library or bookstore and checked-out or purchased a title only to arrive home… Read more »
Rodgers Memorial Library Celebration
I had a wonderful time participating in the 5th Anniversary Celebration of the Rodgers Memorial Library’s new building. The day was filled with music, crafts, clowns, face painting, book talk and–because of the annual cupcake contest–tons of cupcakes!
Fancy Nancy Tea Party
Miss Patty is the children’s librarian at the public library where I work. On the day before Mother’s Day, she hosted a Fancy Nancy-style tea party. Here she is serving lemonade: So many pretty dresses! There’s always time to sneak in some reading: Everyone enjoyed sipping lemonade, and nibbling on pretty sandwiches and cookies. Sharing… Read more »
Book Group
Yesterday, I was the guest author at my biggest book club event yet. Although two participants needed to leave before we snapped the picture, all told there were 16 in attendance, besides myself. What a great bunch of women! It was so interesting to hear their stories and how they felt connected to Call Me… Read more »
Library Work
It’s so much fun to work at a public library surrounded by books and those who love them. We’ve just taken down our staff art exhibit. The display included photographs, paintings, pastels, and needlework. Here is a fuzzy close-up of my contribution. Besides all the fun events, another great thing about working at the library is I get to… Read more »
