It’s Snowing Snowmen!

I love how WordPress makes it snow on my blog each year for the month of December. Noticing this, I decided to whip up a post regarding snowmen (although, as always, this could lead me in all sorts of directions). There’s something about the round jolliness of snowmen that brings a smile to even the grumpiest scrooge.
Can’t miss a chance to put picture books in my post. 🙂 Here are some favorites featuring snowmen.
I haven’t built a real snowman in many years, probably not since I helped make this silly snow bunny with my children.
Here are some easy-to-make pins from my felt craft phase. You just cut out two shapes twice, white for the front and back of the snowman and another color for his/her hat, add embroidery details, stuff with a little bit of cotton batting and stitch them up.
Another kind of snowman I’ve made quite often is pretty tasty and often gets requested for the annual cookie swap. Use your favorite cake mix and frosting for fast results.

Speaking of the annual cookie swap, this event with my childhood friends has been going on for thirty years. There are seven of us and we take turns hosting each year. Last year one of my friends used this fun layout for her place settings.
We draw names for presents and each of us makes seven dozen cookies to share. A potluck feast happens, as well. I’m hoping if I make the following collage of group photos very tiny, I won’t get in trouble with any of my camera-shy friends. It seems like hardly any time has gone by since we started doing this, but you might be able to pick out the oldest gatherings by some of our big hairdos. 
I had a feeling I’d be adding more to this post. After reading some of your wonderful comments, I remembered this little snowman—he’s a mug with a book on his head!

I do have a snowmen collection! Many of them were gifts, and I use them to decorate in December. And I love your snowing blog. 🙂

It’s funny how collections happen. I have a lot of snowmen, too, and I think they were ALL gifts. I haven’t put them out yet this year, but if I find a picture I’ll add it to the post. Thanks, Yvonne, enjoy the season!

Hi, if you go to Settings and click on General, there is a check box there. Click in the box and then save it and you’ll have snow each winter (assuming all themes work the same way…). 🙂

Thank you so very much! I love seeing it snow on other’s blogs and wondered how to do it. I’ll have to let my son know. He’s the comp expert here. I can’t see well enough but I’ll try to remember what youve said.

A cute post, Marcia. I love all the snowmen, and yes, who can resist them.? We don’t get much snow here in the Northwest, but I’m hoping for at least one storm! Happy Snowy Winter!

I like very light flurries during those last two weeks of December, but after that I’m usually ready for spring. 🙂 Here’s hoping you’ll have at least one tiny blizzard!

A blizzard here is about 6″ and its gone in 2 days. I can live with that 🙂 I hope you are visited with Christmas fluff and a short winter!

How wonderful, Marcia. I love your snow rabbit and your snowman cake. I have never made snowman as it doesn’t snow here in South Africa. I don’t get wordpress snow either.

If you check in your blog settings, there might be an option for snow. I just looked up your current temperatures—65 degrees in Johannesburg–sounds good to me!

Love that Snow Bunny picture. 😁. I remember my sister, cousins and I making huge snowmen when we were growing up. Never snows as much where I live now! Watching The Snowman is one of my fave Christmastime things to do. X

Snowman making does produce wonderful memories. I remember a few big ones from childhood, too, and to make them with cousins sounds extra fun!

Hi Marcia, I LOVE your snowman post! The Snowman cake is adorable, and the place setting is inspired! The last time I made a snowman, or rather helped make a snowman was when my son and grandchildren were living in Denmark. It snowed over Christmas, which turned an already wonderful holiday into a magical one. We built a snowman and then made snow angels. Lovely memories.

How fun! You remind me I’ve got a fun photo of a snow turtle my son and I made when he was three. We used a packet of strawberry jello powder to embellish its shell. I need to dig that photo out and pint it up. Thanks for this post, Marcia!

What a great snowman post! My daughter’s imaginary friend was Frosty the Snowman. She just loved the story and we read it over and over. She even got a record of it and played it over and over. Her Frosty went with us wherever we went and I had to make sure he was in the car before I closed the door. Fast forward 20 plus years and I found a stuffed Frosty and gave it to her for Christmas. She was delighted and said it looked just like her imaginary friend. She still has it! (The stuffed toy that is)

The snowman cake ! We rarely get enough snow here in the South to make snowmen.We used to make snow ice cream when I was a little girl. The books are wonderful- lovely to read while eating the cookies. thank you for a delicious post, Marcia! The snow falling is cool,,,

Thanks for sharing all the snowmen. I love Raymond Briggs’ picture book too. I think it is so cool that it was made into a short film. The music composed for the feature was brilliant. I once saw a live performance of the snowman flying scene with the film playing on a large screen behind the orchestra–fantastic.

I so enjoyed your snowmen post! I did have quite the collection of snowmen but parted with many when I downsized this past summer. I still have a few. I also love picture books about snowmen and have quite a few in my picture book collection. Your snowman cake is so cute and I love the snow bunny you built with your children! What fun to have a cookie swap that has gone on for 30 years with your childhood friends. A wonderful Christmas memory! I love the snowman place setting and your adorable snowman mug with the book hat! A very delightful post. Snowmen and women are the cutest! 🙂

I love snowmen. I do have a snowmen collection, both at home and at school. It is fun to decorate for winter and at school snowmen are perfect, as a winter decoration. 🙂 There is just something about snowmen that I find so cute. I love your mug! Adorable. And the cookie swap sounds like lots of fun!
I am also a fan of the books you included. They are popular in my library too. 🙂

Awww… I love this, Marcia. I have a snowman and a Santa collection. Wonderful to see your photos. Love the plates that look like a snowman. This was a delight to read on our first day of snow! Cranking up the snowblower in the morning and making a snowman with children at school on Monday! Merry Christmas to you.

I really enjoyed this post. It brought back lots of good memories – from reading Frosty the Snowman to my children to making cakes that are cut into shapes, first with my mother, and then later with my children.

Dear Marcia this was such a lovely post for this time of the year. It has been a long time since I made a snowman as well! Loved seeing your memories of the bunny one you made with your kids. The snowman bunny!!! It’s the best Marcia!! so cute. And I want to steel your snowman cake idea for our big family drop in at the great grandparents house on the 36th. Do you remember where you got that perfect hat?? And- Love Raymond Briggs “The Snowman”. have a copy out on the coffee table right now. Have you seen the CD movie based on the book? A little expanded, not much dialogue, but such gorgeous music and such a gentle lyrical feel. Fun fun post Marcia!! I always love coming over to your blog!! thanks.

Someone else mentioned the music in The Snowman film, as well, and I’m looking forward to checking it out again. I know one beautiful song from it, but I want to experience it in full. As for the snowman hat, I made it out of black construction paper. Other years I did it in red. You cut two circles, one bigger than the other and then a long strip. Roll the strip into a tube and tape the small circle on top. Draw a circle (same size as the small one) on the bigger circle and cut an opening with a few tabs to use for taping it to the inside of the tube and there you’ve got your top hat. Marcia, this is a lovely wintry post and who doesn’t like snowmen?! I love the last one you added last and the wow, that was a giant one made outside. I have a couple of snowmen ornaments which are special to me – when those are unwrapped and on the mantlepiece it is Christmas! 😀
